“I want meat.”

"I want meat."

“I want meat.”

SNOWING hard when we headed back home from dropping big brother off at school.  No breakfast Both HUNGRY! Hunger became a great motivator for my back seat traveler. “MEAT” she said. “MEAT,meat MEAT” With the snow washing my visibility I was still determined to grab this communication opportunity so the adventure began with me giving a lesson on expanding her hungry thoughts. I adjusted the rear view mirror so our eyes met and drove with one hand to sign. “Are you hungry?” , “EYA”, she said. “Then tell me what you want to eat.” Here is when I cued her by signing it out. “I want meat.”  When she sees the words signed it brings clearer understanding on what she needs to do. She learned some sign before she began speaking which has been helpful. We use it to help cue her verbalization. “I WANT MEAT, MEAT.” I WANT MEAT” The world was white outside and as we hurled through it talking loudly together about meat.
